15% increase in salary a lot?
Hi everyone, I am in need of help figuring out what to do. I’ll do a TLDR at bottom.
I currently make 78k as a field service engineer at a smaller med company. I get food everyday which is about 25-30 a day. Equates to 7800 a year on food that I could be saving. A new job was recommended to me at a different company that is bigger than mine. I interviewed and got the job starting at 95k and being an FSE2. I get the same benefits higher 401k match at 8% compared to 5%. I spoke with my manager(very supportive btw) and told him and they ended up giving me a 6k bump into my 78k salary which would make me at 84k. I have slept on this for a week and I am losing my mind.
This is why it’s hard for me to leave: I love my job. My territory is very nice and I only travel a fair amount. I get free food everyday. My work life balance is good meaning some days I don’t even work(I make my own service schedule). My managers and coworkers are extremely chill and supportive. I am experienced in what I do and it’s a good feeling to know what I’m doing. I am projected on becoming an FSE2 by January 2027.
Since I got the 6k bump now, I am limited to my promotion for next year which would limit me at 4% instead of 7% raise.
The new company will involve more out of state travel since I will be covering my home state and half of another state. It’s more mandatory than optional. I get optional travel most of the time at my current job meaning if I have down time I can go assist another engineer which is nice to visit other states and enjoy it.
TLDR: love current job. New job landed on me, 15% bump. Risk of possibly not liking it. Better work life balance at current job it seems like. What would you guys do?
