Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a complete preparation roadmap for Amazon SDE1 roles.

A bit about my background: I completed an internship at Amazon in December 2025 and received an inclined email afterward, but I haven’t received an offer yet. At the moment, I’m taking some time with my newborn, but once things are more stable, I plan to start applying again from September. That gives me around 6 months to prepare properly.

My background is mainly backend engineering. I work mostly with Java and Spring Boot, and I’m already working on improving my DSA/problem-solving skills. I’m currently based in Germany and open to relocating anywhere in the EMEA region for the right opportunity.
I would really appreciate guidance from people who have recently prepared for or cleared Amazon SDE1 interviews, especially in EMEA.

Some specific things I’d love advice on:

DSA preparation

  1. Which topics should I prioritize for SDE1?

  2. How many LeetCode problems should I realistically aim for in 6 months?

  3. Should I focus more on patterns, Amazon-tagged questions, or general problem solving?

  4. Any recommended problem lists or study plans?

System design / low-level design

  1. Is system design expected for Amazon SDE1 in EMEA?

  2. If yes, what level of depth should I prepare?

  3. Should I focus more on object-oriented design, API design, databases, scalability basics, or distributed systems fundamentals?

Java / backend skills

  1. Since my main stack is Java + Spring Boot, what should I revise deeply?

  2. Are topics like multithreading, concurrency, JVM, collections, REST APIs, SQL, and design patterns important for SDE1 interviews?

  3. Any project ideas that would strengthen my profile while preparing?

Leadership Principles

  1. Since I already interned at Amazon and got inclined, how should I prepare LP stories this time?

  2. Should I reuse internship examples or prepare completely new stories?

  3. Which LPs are usually most important for SDE1 interviews?

Application strategy

  1. Since I’m based in Germany and open to EMEA, what is the best way to apply?

  2. Should I reach out to recruiters, my previous manager, or keep applying through the Amazon jobs portal?

  3. Does having an inclined intern outcome help when applying again later?

6-month roadmap

  1. If you had 6 months to prepare from scratch or semi-prepared, how would you structure it month by month?

  2. How much time should go into DSA vs Java/backend vs LPs vs projects?

My goal is to be fully interview-ready by September and apply seriously for SDE1 roles across EMEA.

Any detailed roadmap, resources, personal experience, or preparation strategy would be extremely helpful.

Thank you!

I’m planning to build a strong Java foundation and would love advice from people who have actually gone through the journey.

In your opinion, which resource is best to truly master Java from beginner to advanced level?

I’m not looking for random tutorial playlists; I want something structured, high-value, and worth the time.

So far, in my research, I’ve come across these frequently recommended resources:

My goal is to build solid fundamentals first, then move into Spring Boot, backend development, and advanced Java concepts.

If you had to start again today, what path would you follow?

Would really appreciate honest recommendations from experienced Java developers.
