Hi all! I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer IDC with DCIS grade 2, stage 1 ++-, node negative, Ki-67 of 20%, oncotype score of 18. Tumor size 9mm.

Because of my age (40f) and oncotype I’m in a grey zone of uncertainty when it comes to treatment. MO mentioned 4 rounds of TC, along with radiation and tamoxifen, yet when my case was presented at the tumor board last week another MO was against chemotherapy.

The breast containing IDC has always been problematic. It was the only side that produced milk while breastfeeding and during my menstrual cycle it’s hot to the touch, sore and swells to the point it almost feels engorged. My lumpectomy came back with clear margins but due to its erratic behavior throughout the years, I’m meeting with a plastic surgeon to explore the option of a mastectomy.

I also have a young child and want to be around as long as possible for them. I’m torn with the decision to go all in with or take the path of least resistance since my odds of recurrence are low. Having to make these decisions is incredibly difficult. If any of you have insight and experience with this dilemma I would love to hear your stories.
