How I learned I didn’t need weed for sleep
Here’s just a small anecdote for anyone who is in the situation I was in.
I had an autoimmune disorder that required prednisone, which is horrible for sleep.
I used cannabis (0.3g per night) for sleep which worked way better than any of the prescribed meds by having much more manageable side effects.
I finally got off prednisone (hallelujah!) and then wanted to get normal sleep back.
After giving my body a few months to readjust from 8 years of prednisone rendering my adrenals dormant, I decided to get my sleep back on track.
It was so hard. Lying awake sucked really bad. I kept trying and reverting back, afraid my disease would flare up again from lack of sleep.
Until, I got a sleep tracker.
It showed me that my sleep was equally shitty on weed as without weed.
This was the end of my cannabis use.
I realized that the only reason I was using weed was because it made me not care when I lay awake. And when I woke I had the munchies so I’d have a snack and go back to bed, which was enjoyable.
But then I just accepted I might be awake and would read a good book for a while and go back to sleep.
Over the past three weeks without weed my sleep has slowly improved and I’m finally sleeping relatively normal again. Still wake up in the night but hey, I’m 44 and run two businesses and father of 3 kids. I think that’s pretty common.
Hope that helps someone finally kick the habit.
