independent gym strength training vs guided studio pilates with weights
hi everyone!
I have been going to the gym for almost two years and lifting free weights to workout videos (which has been fun enough and I have a solid 4-5 day routine). I also recently tried an (insert pilates studio name) class which was sooo much fun.
I realize of course that pilates is not as effective at building and maintaining muscle, which is what my goal is - I’m quite lean and I hope to just maintain my shape (I used to be overweight). And keeping 2 memberships up is definitely financially not an option. The pilates studio is also more expensive.
However I just had sooooo so much fun…. and i loved having a girlypop trainer who was so nice and supportive… I guess my question is - if I go do pilates with weights 4/5 times a week would it significantly reduce my progress / effectiveness of this time and money I am spending? Because truth be told it feels so much more like a community-centered approach and is closer to home for me. I guess this is where the heart is but the gym is what the brain knows is more effective/better for me long term.
If anyone has any experience with dropping traditional strength training and switching to weighted pilates / how it affected your physique I’d love to hear about that. And any other input welcome as well! Sending everyone good vibes!!
