There are so many stories i can go over about my current IT Manager’s weapons-grade incompetence. For background information I got laid off in the middle of last year as a cyber engineer right as the tariff economy and AI boom started. I went from ignoring recruiters weekly to begging for bottom of the barrel jobs just to find employment. I landed at some foreign owned insurance business shithole through a staffing agency and took one of the worst offers of my life. Luckily for me i proved value early and was promoted quickly from a system admin to a sr engineer (my previous position at the old company and one ive held for 3yrs there). Theres a whole story about that but i’ll save it for another time.
So my boss is the IT manager of a small and very inexperienced team. He is very good at masking as someone that is knowledgeable about IT but after a handful of months the mask completely slipped. I was beginning to get very suspicious about how much he would rag on the IT staff about how inexperienced and unprofessional they were. As a manager, the team’s performance is your responsibility so blaming your staff is always a red flag to me. Any time there was an issue or an outage, of which there are many here, he blame’s the staff for not following through with some initiative he supposedly gave them that would have prevented this. An initiative i usually never heard mentioned until the outage. Everything is always somebody else’s fault.
Recently our infrastructure in a remote data center suffered a major power outage. Come to find out the data center had been sending power limit emails to him for weeks and he basically ignored it (because he hardly reads his emails). Of course this was blamed on the staff there.
There is so much more to cover and i’ll add in some future posts but in short: He consistently messes up and blames everyone else. He routinely ghosts our vendors right before we are about to embark on a project they have submitted an SOW for because he gets cold feet. He has burned every vendor relationship we have because he doesn’t return calls or email and routinely has meeting with new Vendors that he treats like window shopping and leaves everyone high and dry when it comes time to commit. I cannot wait to name and shame this hell hole the second i find other employment.
