Hi!

I just built a new PC. I'm running Mint 23.3 with Kernel 6.17 and Mesa 25. Also, my components are a Ryzen 7 9800 X3D and a Powercolor Hellhound RX 9070 XT.

I was having trouble redeeming an AMD Rewards promotion code, because the pvt.sh didn't recognized my GPU, even when the system did.

So, after a couple of hours of research, turns out all I had to do was update the PCI data:

sudo update-pciids

and then:

lspci | grep VGA

Guess the RX 9070 XT is still "new" enough to show as default (1002:7550). Thanks to this, the GPU was verified and I was able to redeem Crimson Desert.

Hope this helps someone with the same trouble.

Hello!

I just ordered the components to build my first PC. Installing Linux on my IMAC and changing the thermal paste of my PS3 gave me the confidence I needed. I was always a Sony boy, but building a PC was on my mind for the last few months. I know the expense will be worth it, although my wallet will be empty for a while.

Anyways, my main components are:

  • Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • Powercolor Hellhound RX 9070 XT
  • MSI B650 Tomahawk (I know I will have to update the BIOS)
  • Patriot Viper Xtreme 5 6000MHz CL30 (2x16GB)
  • Phantom Spirit 120 SE

I also got a Patriot SSD VP4300, a Corsair 4000D RS to hold it together, and a Corsair RM 850x 80 PLUS Gold.

Nevermind the budget, but what are your thoughts on the build? I wanted reliability and components for at least a couple of years. Do you have any tips other than updating the motherboard and setting EXPO?

I want to install Linux Mint on it and use it for recording music and, mainly, gaming. I'm an offline guy, I want to play Baldur's Gate and Crimson Desert. On that end, do you have any recommendations for a monitor? I was eyeing the MSI MAG 275UPD E14 mostly to take advantage of the GPU I ordered, but since I come from PS5 I can settle with 1440p.
