Can someone explain why the ticket prices to screen older films is sometimes $18 or $20?

I always think that these older films should be priced a little bit less than the average ticket for a new release. I would think that theaters make a higher percentage from ticket sales than they would for a new film.

So does anyone know why? Any insights into this practice?

Edit to add: Obviously it is a more immersive experience to watch a movie in a theater. This is simply a question about the mechanics and business practices of pricing.
