I’ve searched and found a ton of info on this but not the situation I am in and was hoping someone who has gone through it can give insight.
I pain into the MGIB, did 2 enlistments. When I got out I wanted to save the education benefits for grad school so didn’t touch it at all.
1 year into community college I was approved for VRE. My counselor had be relinquish the MGIB and opt for PGIB so VRE could pay based on PGIB BAH rates.
I finished VRE but want to switch fields and hoping to use my PGIB.
I currently have 100% eligibility for PGIB. I received the letter (attached) from the VA after I inquired about my situation on askva site. They haven’t replied on the website directly and it’s been weeks.
I want to see if anyone who paid into the MGIB but relinquished it for PGIB and currently trying to go to school with everything intact. I had confusion on the delimiting aspect of MGIB. When I relinquished it (2014), I didn’t use any PGIB. So trying to see how that is recalculated. Some have said it adds 10 years delimiting from the date of relinquishing MGIB and some say it’s 10 years from date of separation.
Will be calling the VA line Monday to get clarity but also looking for personal experiences of Vets in this situation.
