Hello new community!
Recently was given a 1648 Jon from my fiances father who no longer wanted it. I've grown up on boats and the water, but somehow never owned a Jon boat, or even a boat with an outboard.
I'm hoping to turn it into a simple little bass style build, likely doing a deck from the bow to the front bench.
I'm just looking for some general insight as I begin this, I'm very handy but as I said, new to Jon boats and their builds specifically. If anyone can point me to some good how to videos I'd love it!
Couple quick questions as well:
-The outboard is a 25hp Jet, it seems to be placed on top of a homemade jack plate that raises it up but doesn't push it out much. Is this worth keeping in place, what are the benefits to this other than the outboard being higher and thus allowing shallower water use?
-He also gave us a 45 pound Minn Kota transom mounted motor. Do you think a 45 pound will be enough for slow movement, or should I sell that and put it towards a 55? I would like a bow mounted one instead, but for now will use this if possible.
-Ant general tips, first things or pointers?
