I am seeking advice regarding a workplace harassment and employer handling issue within a hospital-based environment involving shared workplace areas and multiple stages of reporting.
Over a prolonged period (several years), I experienced repeated inappropriate sexualised comments and behaviour from a colleague, including remarks about relationships and personal appearance, which made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe in shared workspaces. I also experienced at least one incident of intimidation and aggressive behaviour.
I initially raised concerns informally with management, including by email and phone, stating that I felt uncomfortable with the behaviour and threatened. As the situation escalated, I later made formal complaints and there is a documented record of these complaints following the escalation of intimidation and ongoing conduct.
Although some adjustments were made to the colleague’s working arrangements, I continued to encounter him in shared workplace areas and felt the situation was not fully resolved.
The situation contributed to stress-related absence, and I raised during a return-to-work discussion that my wellbeing had been affected. My antidepressants have been increased and I have ongoing therapy (stated in gp records as work related causes)
I have supporting evidence including emails, messages, and records of complaints made after the escalation of concerns.
I have now commenced Early Conciliation through ACAS, (only had my first phone call yesterday). I have asked for work safety and financial settlement. I need advice/opinions?
