Anyone else had symptoms return after months of improvement with Mirena?

Hi everyone,

I’ve had a Mirena IUD for about a year now because of suspected adenomyosis/endometriosis, extremely heavy periods, severe cramps, and iron deficiency anemia.

The Mirena definitely helped in some ways — my periods are much lighter now and the horrible cramps are not as intense anymore. But instead, I’ve had almost constant mild lower abdominal/pelvic pain for the entire year. I’ve had the IUD checked multiple times and doctors always say it’s placed correctly and that I should “give my body more time.”

What confuses me is that my symptoms seem to fluctuate a lot. For a few months I barely had any bleeding or pain and thought things were finally improving, but now I’m back to long periods/spotting (sometimes almost 2 weeks, dark red/brown blood) and more discomfort again.

Has anyone else experienced this with Mirena and suspected endo/adenomyosis? Did it eventually settle down for you, or did it turn out that the IUD just wasn’t enough/helpful for your condition?

I really don’t want to go on the pill, so I’m feeling a bit lost about what to do next.
