I am moving out at the end of May 2026. The lease I signed back in 2022 requested I get professional cleaning and carpet cleaning (and provide receipts) prior to move out. I am wondering if with the new laws that have passed if I am still responsible for those professional cleanings or if I just need to vaccuum and clean as best as I can and hand over the keys.
I have lived in the apartment since 2019 and at the time my landlord had said the carpet had just been installed. Aren’t landlords required to replace carpet after 5-7 years anyway? It would make no sense to pay to clean something they will just tear out. But, if they could turn around and charge me, I would like to avoid that. It’s less about the payment and more about taking on another set of tasks (scheduling and overseeing the jobs) as I have a lot of other stressors going on at the moment. Not sure if it matters, but the actual lease expired back in 2023 and I have been month-to-month since. (Not by my choice, the landlord refused to draw up a new lease). Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
