Hi everyone, first pure sales role so wanted to get some opinions on the role itself and commission structure.

I spent the last few years in recruitment, I wasn’t too happy and the earnings weren’t great for the level of effort I put in.

I was offered a role last year for a tech start up (consultancy, same tech ecosystem I recruited into). The role was pure sales, and the team was tiny but doing well as they had a lot of inbound.

There was no sales team here, literally no processes etc. also fully remote.

First few months I put in my own sales processes, tools etc and also utilised my recruitment background to help them grow the team to where it needed to be. We decided that as my time was mainly taken up by other stuff, we’d start my targets from January this year.

It’s been a lot of building from scratch, but now in April I’m sitting on 100k revenue with about 150k more almost guaranteed as the contracts are signed. Quite a lot of other stuff in the pipeline too.

I get 5% commission on projects, 9% on services agreements. (Revenue usually ends up about half and half on each). Also other incentives like lump sums when I get certain revenue milestones.

Seemed like a good move to make as I was already well connected from my recruitment days, so softer landing into a lot of prospects. Also I am really happy with the role so far, but wanted opinions to compare against.
