I used to play Guilty Gear Strive a lot when it first came out and reached Celestial, but I never felt particularly good at it. I mainly played Faust, and I stopped around the time Sin came out because life got busy.
I’ve now seen that 2.0 is out, and I’m really keen to get back into the game. My favorite Guilty Gear character overall is Zappa, whom I played a ton in GGAC+R. What I loved most about Zappa was that he was never boring, having to learn all five forms and think about how each one interacted with the opponent was exactly my kind of thing.
I’m looking for a new character to pick up in Strive rather than going straight back to Faust. The three suggestions I got from AI were:
- Asuka — probably the best fit if I want the most complex, “solve the match in real time” kind of character.
- Jack-O’ — good for weird setups, layered offense, and making the opponent deal with my systems.
- Bedman? — strong if I want unpredictable, creative pressure.
My question is: based on that Zappa background, which of these would be the best character to learn first, and is there anyone else I should seriously consider?
