I’ll be setting up my home office in a new house soon and can fully redesign the space. I’m in client and executive meetings daily, permanently remote WFH.
My office has a north facing large window, then a large blank wall behind. I was planning to put my desk in front of the window to take advantage of the natural light and avoid being backlit, so I can fully customize my background.
I’m a pasty white person with red cheeks (thanks rosacea). My biggest challenge is creating a virtual video setup that always looks professional and great. Do you have tips on how to really perfect that high quality setup?
Some things I’m wondering about:
- Would a dark/black wall behind me minimize that washed out white?
- I’m light sensitive — are there less intense lighting options than a ring light to make me look great on camera?
- Any other tips/tricks from folks who have spent time on this?
My budget is relatively open ended and I’m game to DIY some cool background installations for sound proofing that looks elegant. I’m also hoping to use this as a gaming room outside of work hours, so I’ll be adding in a couch of some kind and want lots of ambient lighting.
Thanks!
