I’ve spent the last few weekends driving around looking at used vans and it’s getting depressing. Everything I’ve seen so far seems to have major rust issues around the sills or the engine sounds like a bag of nails. I just want something reliable for a basic weekend build that won’t leave me stranded when I'm out in the middle of nowhere.

I'm starting to think about just leasing a brand new base van and doing a removable setup inside so I don't mess with the contract. I’ve been keeping a few tabs open for Vanarama and Rivervale just to see what the lead times are like for a Transit or a Vivaro. At least that way I’d have a warranty and wouldn't have to worry about the MOT or the van failing on me.

Has anyone here done a "non-permanent" build on a leased van? I’m thinking about using those modular bolt-in units so I can just take everything out when the term is up. Just wondering if the leasing companies get weird about stuff like that or if they even care as long as the floor and the ply lining are still intact when it goes back.
