Has anyone used the WD warranty the past 6 mo. to a year?
I have a WD 18 TB Gold drive that was registered recently and the purchase date is earlier than when I bought it from B&H.
I contacted WD and asked if I could have that date changed by providing my receipt. Afterwards, I saw a post where an end user receipt was not honored because it didn't say the HDD they purchased (from B&H) was new. I don't remember seeing a receipt that said a piece of hardware I purchased was new. I've had receipts say something was used. B&H also sells used stuff and the receipt lists it as used.
An email response then came from WD and said, "if you have any proof of purchase confirming the date was purchased on a different data as new drive. You can anytime share that with me and I will escalate the case for warranty validation and update."
I didn't bother since the receipt doesn't say it's a "new" HDD 🤦♂️. I'm curious, has anyone come across this or is it a recent policy they have adopted?
EDIT: I’m more interested in seeing if they changed recently. Like Synology changed its policy with third party hardware for a while until they (partially) backpedaled.
