The book had two main viewpoints that I remember. One from a worker bee and another from a drone. A few key things I remember are:

1. a mouse getting into the beehive and the resulting damage caused one of the drones to be born with physical impairments.

2. A scene where the queen flies out and all the drones chase after her to try and mate with her.

3. As winter sets in all of the drones are driven from the hive and die in the cold.

4. The book ends with the worker bee dying on a flower.

I read this back in the late 90s when I was 12 or 13. I read it as part of an early teens book club at my local library so it was age appropriate.
