I started seeing some interesting brown trench coats on secondhand sites but kept getting beaten when they sold quickly.
Finally scored one.
Turns out the recent sales of brown trench coats have almost all been full price or very lightly discounted, which is very unusual.
Since forever the motto has been "if it's brown, it's down" but that seems to have changed.
Jacket - Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche $196, plus $85 for special dry cleaning to remove undisclosed stains. Likely from when Tom Ford was creative director (2001-03) inspired by 1970s YSL designs.
Jeans - Loro Piana $206, plus $25 to adjust the hem
Shoes - Salvatore Ferragamo $236 plus $5 to shine.
Shirt - Charles Tyrwhitt, $47. (ok, not secondhand but cheap and non-iron)
Belt - Coach outlet, $70
Underwear - Walmart, 6 pairs for $19.99
Total under $1000 with tax and shipping.
Maybe more than some people would spend but I'm happy with how it came together. One deliberately vintage designer piece surrounded by a quiet modern look at a small fraction of retail.
