I’ve had my first pair of RM Williams Comfort Craftsman (Chestnut, rubber sole) for about a month now and thought I’d share my experience.
For context:
Size: 7G
Worn 3x a week
Bought online after trying the same size in store (which felt perfect)
Initial fit:
When they arrived, they felt noticeably tighter than the pair I tried in store.
Very snug across the whole foot
Toe box felt restrictive, especially on the big toe
Walking felt like my toes were being slightly compressed
After a month of wear:
The leather has softened a bit and loosened across the vamp
Overall comfort has improved slightly
But the toe area is still tighter than I expected
They’re definitely more wearable now, but they haven’t “opened up” as much as I thought they would based on what people say about break-in.
Other observations:
Creasing came in quite early across the vamp
Build quality feels solid overall
Main question:
For those with more experience, is this normal?
Do Comfort Craftsman loosen more over time, or is what I’m feeling now basically the final fit?
Should the toe box ease further, or is that something that doesn’t really change?
Has anyone else found pairs to fit differently vs trying in-store?
I like the boots and want to keep them, but trying to work out if this is just standard break-in or if I should have gone up half a size.
Would appreciate any insight 🤝
