After 10 years on the floor, I have the opportunity to apply for Captain or Fire Marshal. It’s a tough spot, the crew is really pushing for me to take the Captain seat, which means a lot to me. However with 3 littles at home, the Marshal position is looking like the better move for my family. Has anyone dealt with the guilt of leaving the floor when the guys want you there? How did you weigh the career vs. home life balance? Yearly salary is the same with one being a Modified Kelly and the other a 40 hour flex. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
