Sometimes, I wonder if society has forgotten the latent beauty of friendships. They are often the most natural bonds, in human behavior, because they are often forged, due to common sufferance, shared experiences, shared ideals, and the intersection of various other character traits. They are voluntary. And that's precisely why they are special. Some struggle to make friends, whereas, some make friends wherever they go. The difference between these two sets of distinct individuals, lies partly in their social ability, yes, but I believe that it also lies in their definition of a friend. Have you ever asked yourself, what a friend is, or even who a friend is? Your answer to that question, would reveal what kind of social life you have. If your answer was similar to mine, I'd like to be your friend. For me, personally, friends are the most profound form of intellectual AND emotional achievement. I long for people I once considered as one, years later, and take time to form “new” friendships. In the modern day, along with the plethora of other problems in our country, I believe that people have lost the true essence of humanity, which is community. Sure, your resume might be the most mind boggling thing on the planet, but it doesn't matter, if you don't have a true social life. We, humans, are social creatures. We thrive in communities, and ever since the dawn of mankind, it is in our basest behaviour to form intimate connections with those around us. Now, the world is moving at a simply ludicrous pace. There is no time left to talk. There is no time left to bond. There is no time left to be truly human. In this maddening pursuit of greatness, we forget what truly matters, the bonds which make us who we are. Isn’t that ironic? We chase this quintessential persona, for so long, that we forget why we even aspired to be great, in the first place. For we humans, despite our various academic and intellectual feats, are rather foolish. For we forget the purpose of existence. We forget to cherish what truly matters in this universe. In this vast expanse of emptiness, and void, we lie in a plane which has transcended mere material, for we have achieved consciousness in this celestial silence, and yet we choose to spend our living days grinding perfection, rather than accepting this gift. Perhaps I have no authority to comment on this, but the beauty of life lies in the bonds one makes, rather than the achievements they might stack up. For, human life loses individuality, if everyone tries to maintain a facade of being ideal. The endeavour to be great is indeed a noble pursuit, but being a human, is the noblest of all pursuits.
