I am a lay person with only a general background knowledge of Spanish colonization and the history of the Americas. However, it seems to me, like he did a lot of research but by and large mainly in getting perspectives that represent the Conquistador/colonizer perspective and much less so for the indigenous people.

What do professional historians and academics think of his work?
