Sony is killing Bungie. Here is the plan to save Destiny 2 before it officially dies in 2028.
I’ve been watching this $765M disaster unfold and it’s honestly depressing. Sony just reported a massive loss on Bungie because they’ve spent the last two years stressing the devs out to make "cheap repairs" and mediocre updates just to squeeze a bit of profit. Now they’re wondering why everyone is leaving.
If Sony doesn't stop treating this game like a spreadsheet, Bungie isn't going to make it past 2028. We need to stop trying to be Fortnite and remember that Destiny needs a soul. Here is the roadmap to turn it back into a real MMORPG.
- Stop the Marathon Obsession (Move to 25% Team Focus)
It is undeniably stupid that 70% of the team is working on a $40 extraction shooter while D2 rots.
Go Free-to-Play: Nobody is paying $40 for a struggling new IP. Make it F2P, sell the battle pass/skins, and keep one hardcore map behind a paywall if you have to.
Shift the Talent: Move the "A-Team" back to Destiny. Marathon only needs 25% of the studio to handle seasons, cosmetics, and championships.
- The Destiny 2 Emergency Rescue (75% Team Focus)
We need to turn D2 back into a living MMORPG, not a lobby-based menu simulator. This isn't Fortnite; we need a world that feels alive.
Give Us a Reason to Log In: We need actual daily purposes. Give us little daily missions to upgrade our ships or hunt down rare cosmetics. We need a 30-day login reward system with a massive, high-tier reward at the end that resets every month.
Season Pass Overhaul: Stop putting shitty armor in the pass while the good stuff is in Eververse for the same price. The Season Pass armor should be insane—the kind of gear people are proud to grind for.
Infinite Exploration: The world needs to feel reactive. We need a system in exploration zones that creates infinite, non-repeatable events so it doesn't feel like the same "patrol" every time we log in.
Fix the Loot (Blue & Purple Rarity): Get rid of the Tiered Gear system—it’s a job, not a game. Reintroduce more Blue (Rare) drops and make Purples (Legendary) actually feel rare and valuable again. Impossible Exotics should be tied to world discovery, not just a seasonal checklist.
Personal Ownership: Let us walk around our ships. Give us a "Museum" wing in the Tower to display our trophies and rare gear accomplishments.
Towns & Interaction: Every planet needs a "Tiny Town"—social outposts with shops, trading, and minigames like fishing, racing, or gambling for Glimmer.
Kill "The Portal": The Portal UI is a soul-killer that makes the game feel like a lobby shooter. Give us back the landing zones and the feeling of actually flying to a destination.
Bring Back the Vault: Reintroduce ALL the vaulted content and every single weapon that was removed from the game.( What is possible to retrieve)
The Bottom Line
Sony and Bungie are doing the exact opposite of this right now. They’re adding "Tiers" instead of "Towns" and "Checklists" instead of "Magic." They think they can save money by gutting the world, but the world is the only reason we play.
If they don’t stop managing the profit and start managing the game, this studio is dead by 2028. Period.
I know some of this sounds like a dream that’ll never come true. Some of you might hate this post or tell me I’m just talking nonsense, but it is what it is. I know one post might not change the world, but if we can actually shake things up online and show support for a plan like this, maybe Bungie will finally hear us. We need real quality of life, not more excuses to squeeze this franchise dry. Destiny needs to be a living, breathing world again—not a second job where you just log in to click on menus and chase the next powercreep.
Enough is enough...
