Which version of The Ballad of Narayama should I watch: 1958 or 1983?
Down the road I’ll probably see both (particularly if I like whichever I see first), but it’ll probably b a while.
The only Imamura film I’ve seen so far is Black Rain, which I thought was excellent tho I think the subject applied well to the importance and pace in ways that I’m not sure something like Narayama would engross me w. I also really try to try different things anyway, and keep a list of favorite films for every year and I happen to only have 1 for 1958 which I’d like to fill, tho 1983 is moderately low compared to the others and if it’s that amazing like ppl suggest that would be perfectly fine — plus I’ve heard things about the color, tho the cinematography is supposed to b excellent for both so idk.
So yeah, what do you suggest?
