Hi all!
The last few weeks I’ve been seeing an ortho NP for a chronic horizontal meniscus tear (determined by an MRI), which also included some loss in the cartilage behind the patella. It seemed like the fix would be surgery & they mentioned the meniscus being a “true tear” because it appeared in multiple images from the MRI. But yesterday I saw the MD for surgical consult & they said it wasn’t a “true tear” because it doesn’t touch the joint, and that all my pain is coming from the loss of cartilage. They called it patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). And apparently there’s nothing they can do and wouldn’t do surgery on the meniscus tear. MD recommended weight loss, understandably. I’m 202 & 5’4 but I do have quite a bit of muscle on me. I’m working on the whole weight loss thing as quick as I can. There was a mention of “movement as medicine” but if being heavy while moving is what caused this, I don’t understand how it should help. I got a PT referral so I’ll see them.
But yeah, uh is this normal? Anyone have a similar experience? Should I get a second opinion?
