In the 1980s I went from my (very rural) hometown in NJ to Parris Island and then almost four years at Lejeune. After four life-changing years I decided I wanted to get out. I had zero interest in returning home to my little tiny speck on the map hometown (population to this very day: 1200), and I surely wasn't staying in Jacksonville.

I had nowhere to go but I was doing a long-distance thing with a chick from Northern California. The weather was great, and I had some steady strange so I moved there. Forty years later I am still here and will never leave.

Where did you end up? Do you still live near a Marine base?
