Manager said every request needed a ticket first

At my old IT help desk job, my manager Kevin got tired of people asking us quick questions in person, so he made a strict rule:

No work gets done without a support ticket. No exceptions.

The next morning, Kevin walked over to my desk because he couldn’t log into his email. He asked me to quickly reset his password.

I reminded him about the new policy and told him I’d need a support ticket first.

Kevin got annoyed but submitted one.

Unfortunately for him, tickets were handled in the order they arrived, and there were already 14 ahead of his.

So Kevin spent most of the morning unable to access his email while approving the very policy that caused it.

By the end of the week, the “no exceptions” rule quietly disappeared.
