Rodney Reed has been on death row for 25 years. For 11 of those years, he's been asking Texas to DNA test the belt used to strangle Stacey Stites. They keep saying no. In March, SCOTUS declined to intervene - but Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson dissented and warned the state may execute Reed without ever knowing whether his or her fiancé's DNA is on the murder weapon. A simple test could answer everything. It still hasn't happened.
I'm an Australian producer who spent months reading the actual court records - trial transcripts, habeas filings, autopsy reports - and what I found in the forensic timeline is deeply unsettling.
This podcast doesn't tell you Reed is innocent. It reads the record out loud and asks why the one test that could resolve this case keeps getting blocked.
