Curious if anyone else has experienced this. About 1.5 years ago I started experiencing an issue with eggs. For context at the time this started I was doing a weight loss journey, I was eating abt 2 eggs during breakfast, along with other items like spinach, bell peppers, and an English muffin. Then for lunch I was eating 2 hard boiled eggs with my lunch, for this I basically did an adults lunchable. I ate this diet of abt 4 eggs a day for abt a month and randomly started having excruciating back pain. I didn’t correlate the back pain with the eggs for a while, I was abt a year postpartum so I thought maybe something hormonal was going on. I wasn’t sure what was causing it. I went to the dr and explained what was going on and she had me get a back X-ray, she did a physical exam of my back, and did labs. All came back normal. She had no guesses as to what was causing this pain.
My husband later suggested it was possibly the eggs, so I cut the eggs out and bam the back pain was gone. So I have nothing to confirm this besides anecdotal evidence. Since cutting eggs, now whenever I eat eggs I have this excruciating pain.
Now here’s the catch, it’s ONLY with straight eggs, I can eat baked goods with eggs in it, so cake, cookies, bread, etc, the one item that doesn’t have a 100% pass or fail is French toast. Sometimes French toast causes issues, sometimes it doesn’t.
Let me explain the back pain, the pain is up in my upper back, in the center slightly below my shoulder blades. It’s hard to describe the pain, it’s not sharp but it’s almost like heavy pressure? Like once the pain picks up I also feel like a heaviness on my chest as well. It typically takes about 1-4 hrs to appear, it’s not immediate, but it takes upwards of 6 hours to disappear. It’s often times very debilitating and has caused me to miss work and makes it impossible for me to function. Nothing I have done has made it better, no over the counter meds, stretching, laying down, nothing.
Now I don’t end up with any GI upset, no nausea or diarrhea.
I’ve done research on this and the only thing that comes up could be gal-bladder upset, BUT the caveat is that the research also said that other higher fat foods should also cause discomfort and that’s not an issue I have.
My question here is, does anyone else experience anything similar? Or does anyone have any guesses about what could cause this?
It’s frustrating bc I like eggs, and I know they’re a great nutritional source, and honestly I’d like to eat eggs again!
