I've been looking online for reviews and ratings of schools, but I'm interested in insights from those who are actually in the area. We're currently looking to move to the Katy/Cypress area from Louisiana. My son will be in 8th grade and is looking for a great middle school that will prepare him for high school and also offer decent extracurricular activities such as basketball. I'm aware of schools like Seven Lake and Cinco Ranch. As someone new to the area, I'm not sure if the competitive nature is where I should first introduce him as an 8th grader, so I've been looking at the schools below. Any insight is appreciated. He's a 4.0 student who makes friends easily, enjoys learning, and plays basketball. Diversity is also important; coming from Louisiana, he was one of few black kids at his school, which he didn’t mind, but moving to a larger city, I'd like to expose him to some diversity. The schools I've been looking at are: Adams J.H., Garland McMeans Junior High School, Rodger & Ellen Beck Junior High School, Smith Middle School.
