I took ownership of a 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport AWD with a CVT transmission with 130k miles. I recently had a mobile mechanic do an engine coolant flush, oil change, and brake fluid flush( the coolant had never been touched, and the brake fluid hadn't been done in 4 years. During service, he asked about my transmission and when the service was last done on it. After telling him that the previous owner (my brother) never touched the fluid since the car was new, he suggested I change the fluid to a thicker CVT fluid and replace the filters and gaskets.
My understanding is that what would be best is if the fluid were drained and filled every 60k miles, but since my vehicle already has 130k with no trans fluid service, it'd be best to just leave it and not touch it to avoid dislodging anything and making it worse. Right now, if I floor the gas, sometimes it feels like the car revs up quickly with the power kind of lagging and taking a bit to come in, which I interpret as a bit of slipping starting to show. What do you guys think I should do? Would a drain-and-fill with OEM Nissan CVT fluid help? Should I mess with the filters/trying a thicker CVT fluid?
