"Have I ever told you the definition of insanity? Insanity is doing the exact same thing over and over again, expecting shit to change."

I've been practicing for a month and a half, self taught. I have no idea where to go, but I am learning songs by just watching a cover of it and just imitating it little by little, one chord at a time over and over and over and over again while watching Netflix. It's hard as hell and it's like I'm going crazy trying to learn this ONE riff that I can't get with both my hands simultaneously.

Currently I'm practicing 'Whiteball' by Miracle Musical. I feel like I'm doing something wrong by skipping the basics and immediately going for songs. Is this how most people learn or am I doing something wrong?

Edit: I forgot to mention this, but I do know some of the basics. Chords, hand placements, the repetitive exercises to make better habits and scaling. I also memorized the letters of the piano? Notes? I just call it letters in my head.
