Built a free HTML5 & Autoplay Blocker extension after my old one got killed by the Manifest V2 shutdown
Like a lot of people here I lost my old autoplay blocker when Google forced the Manifest V2 deprecation. Spent some time building a replacement that actually works — including on sites like Fox News and CNN that bypass the standard autoplay attribute and trigger video via JavaScript.
It blocks all autoplay video and audio, has a per-site toggle so you can whitelist sites like YouTube, and shows you how many attempts it's blocked. There's also a nuclear option to strip all HTML5 media elements from the page entirely if you want a completely distraction-free reading experience.
It's free.
