Apartment-Friendly Bench Test Practice Setup? Quiet Compressor vs Electric — Urgently Need Advice
Hi everyone,
I urgently need some advice regarding bench test practice setups.
Right now I’m using a California ultra quiet air compressor with my practice setup, but honestly it’s still way too loud for apartment living. I live in an apartment with neighbors very close by, and if I practice for 5–6 hours continuously, I’m genuinely worried people will complain.
I’ve heard some people suggest switching to electric handpieces/micromotors instead of air compressors, but I also heard the feel and speed control are not exactly the same as an air-driven high-speed handpiece. Since bench tests are very technique-sensitive, I’m confused whether practicing on electric would affect adaptation later.
So I really need honest opinions from people who have actually gone through bench prep:
- Is electric good enough for bench test practice?
- Does it feel significantly different from air-driven?
- Which electric system would you recommend specifically?
- If possible, can someone share links for setups they personally use?
Also, if anyone knows a TRULY quiet compressor (significantly quieter than California Air Tools compressors — ideally almost half the noise), please please let me know. I would greatly appreciate recommendations.
At this point I genuinely feel stuck and don’t know what setup to invest in.
Thank you so much in advance 🙏
