Voice Actors - What do you expect to get out of a table read?

Someone I've hired for a lead role has offered to do this separately from the actual recording session. I am a new director/animator and I've only ever had people record on their own time and send the result to me, or occasionally I will direct a voice actor for a live session. I have looked up what a table read is and it sounds like it's where we just read the script aloud and get a feel for it. For those of you who have done this - how can I use this time the most productively as the director and give the actor what he needs? I don't know if I would be able to get any of the actors whose parts I've already recorded back to participate in this (and I'm not sure I can afford the extra time rn since I'm paying for all this out of pocket....). Would it be acceptable for me to read the other parts of the script for the voice actor to play off of or is that weird? Please give me any information you think would be helpful thank you. Or if this is not a good sub to ask this in, I would love some help on where to go, thank you in advance.

Where can I, as a non-Muslim, ask a question to progressive Muslims?

I wanted to know more about what influences the choice to wear or not wear the hijab. I intend to ask in completely good faith - this just isn't part of my cultural background and I am an outsider asking so I don't want to intrude on forums that seem like they're FOR Muslims only.

edit: thanks folks! I will look at these
