What makes one of these little AI companions actually click for you?

Been playing around with a few of these little AI companion toys lately and it's wild how different they feel even when they kinda do the same thing. Some just click, others I lose interest in after a day. Curious what the deciding factor usually is for you?

What actually makes a chat AI feel good to use?

Been trying a few different chat AI apps lately and noticed how different they feel even when they kinda do the same thing. Some click right away, others feel off and I can't always tell why. What's the thing that makes or breaks one for you?

Anyone willing to try a companion AI and give honest feedback?

Hey, kinda new here. I've been using a companion/roleplay AI for a while and I'm curious how it actually feels to other people — would love some outside perspective.

Attaching a short video so you can get a feel for it first. A few things I'd love opinions on:

  • Does the conversation feel natural, or kinda stiff?
  • Does it stay in character over longer chats?
  • Also curious — do you actually care about privacy with these (would local-only feel better)? And what's your gut on companion AIs that can use your camera?

Happy to give more details in the comments if people want to try it. Brutal honesty welcome.
