I know this might sound crazy…

But as I sit here and watch this thing run up over $10 after hours, I can’t help but wonder if the run up a couple weeks ago wasn’t just necessarily ignited by the “Marvell order announcement” that everyone keeps citing? Maybe it was just time for it to run up like so many stocks in this sector(look at just about any photonics related stock lately) and the order cancellation obviously delayed it but didn’t kill it. The momentum in this sector is insane right now and they’re a speculative name but so are some of the others. It just seems like it’s photonics plays and nothing specifically about POET. At least not right now anyway. After all, as everyone keeps saying, we all knew about that order years ago.

Been chewing on some of the happenings this week for a few days now…obviously. I’ve watched the Stocktwits interview a couple times and wanted to externalize some thoughts and questions I’ve had in hopes of productive discussion(I know it’s Reddit so unlikely) that doesn’t include “scam company”, “this thing’s still going to the moon”, or all the speculation about Marvell trying to undercut them to purchase them.

Let’s operate under the assumption they have no plans of getting acquired by anyone…

  1. I’m very much aware of how much of a stain this is going to leave on the company in the public eye. But removing Marvell doesn’t necessarily mean it’s over. They’re the one confirmed purchase order but all the other partnerships and speculative orders still exist. To me that’s hard to completely ignore. Even him saying at the end of the video that they’re expecting purchase orders far in excess of that 5 million dollar order(which we don’t know if that’s the Marvel order or the other order they are touting in the press release this week) and people “won’t be disappointed”. Do we think this is all bs/hype? Maybe but I’m still intrigued.

  2. I keep reading/watching all these things about there being a laser/light source shortage and that’s the actual bottleneck that’s delaying AI progress. The demand is clearly still there. I’m assuming this is the “blue ocean” he’s referring to in the video where they have a “ lot less competition” compared to the transceivers. As far as I can tell there’s LITE, COHR, and lot going around about SIVE now. Outside of that, who else is there? Seems like all the product from the first 2 are already gobbled up and there’s limited supply. I’d be curious if anyone here had good knowledge/info or could explain this?

  3. Has Marvell said specifically how they violated the NDA? There’s a point in the video around 9:40 where he mentions something about Marvell building GPU’s and says “I think that’s what their most recent announcement was about”. With the latest rumors that they’re supposedly partnering with Google to make GPU’s to compete with NVIDIA, this statement just made me wonder if that’s information that’s already known or did they actually get pissed that he said that and nothing to do with the already existing orders that POET has with them? Hence the NDA violation. Maybe it is as simple as the declaration of the order and Marvell used that as the excuse they needed to cut ties and go buy lasers directly from Sivers and do it all in house. But I’d love if someone could provide any clarity on that.

  4. Don’t we think if they ultimately can scale at wafer level assembly and prove that to the market, that none of this stuff with Marvell really matters? I think that has to be at the core of why a lot of us invested in the first place and if they can still do that, it’s very possible the Marvell partnership is kinda irrelevant.

If you haven’t yet, I’d urge you to go back and listen to the interview.

And before I get accused of copium and hopium nonsense, that’s really not the point of any of this. I’ve been invested for years and yes, I want the company to succeed and give me a reason to buy back in but I’ve already decided where I’m allocating what I cashed out on Monday so I really don’t care all that much if they succeed or not. I made plenty of money and am not holding any bags here. I just don’t think the big picture has changed all that much. The stock price refusing to stay under 7, despite all the drama, is something I find interesting too. I know this is a lot but what do y’all think?
