Octane learning
Am I the only one really frustrated with Hyundai’s octane learning system?
I have a 2025 Elantra N DCT and I’m honestly annoyed realizing that if the car doesn’t octane learn, I basically don’t even get the full benefits of running 93 octane fuel.
What frustrates me is:
- I’m paying extra for premium fuel
- I rarely drive on highways long enough to octane learn
- the process seems inconsistent/random
- and apparently without octane learning the car stays on the lower boost map anyway
So what exactly am I paying for at that point?
I understand premium still helps with knock resistance and engine safety, but from a performance standpoint it feels disappointing knowing the car doesn’t fully take advantage of it unless you do this specific highway cruising procedure.
I love the car overall, but this system honestly feels overcomplicated compared to other turbo performance cars that just adapt automatically.
Do most of you guys still run 91/93 even if you don’t octane learn regularly? Or do some of you just stop caring about octane learning entirely?
