been injured and sat at home most of the day, and wanted to vent about how I have been seeing a lot of really disgusting videos/posts/comments from climbers and I feel it is damaging our community. I love my local climbing community and I do think this kind of lame behavior exists mostly online at least where I live so this is just a vent. I know most climbers rock ;)
yesterday I was scrolling and saw a video from a guy that said “advice for gay climbers that straight climbers cant hear” that had the audio muted (joke is gay. punchline is imagine being gay. imagine that - hilarious!!) and not even three scrolls later I saw another video of a guy calling slab climbers gay.
This morning one of the first things on my feed was a post about the speed climbing abuse (will not elaborate further so as to not trigger anyone) and all the comments were deeply, deeply insensitive. It made me feel sad. I hope the victims do not ever come across those kind of narratives about what happened to them.
I know these are all jokes. But some of these posters have real audiences online and their content may lead someone to make a crappy joke at the gym or crag and unintentionally alienate people.
