Looking for any advice to write any character from a different culture in a respectful and accurate way. In particular, I want to write the teacher in my novel as an Indian woman in her late 30s-40s. I really want to represent the wonderful multicultural community that we have in Australia, where the novel is set. Any resources for writers to assist in cultural accuracy, or advice from those that are Indian on how to do this? I want write in a way that celebrates other cultures, not making generic descriptions. For example, I have married into a Greek family, so from exposure I would know what to write in a natural way for things like jewellery/accessories/clothing, to body language/tone of voice, to what food they might bring to a shared event, religion, even down to what they would likely have hanging around their rear view mirror in the car. I would like this sort of insight. Thank so much!
