N-plates required for a second full license?

Hi all,

Looking to confirm if my thinking is correct here. Long story short, a family member (65 F) let their drivers license expire for over ten years and ended up having to redo the theory, 12 lessons, and full test altogether. They have done that, and just today, they passed the full test.

So the question is, do they have to wear N-plates for the two years? Multiple times on the RSA website, it says the N-plates are specifically for people who have 'received their first full driving license' and obviously this is their second full one. Furthermore, they have also misplaced this first license too so it's not like they have it to present to the guards if they got stopped at a checkpoint or anything. I was wondering if it's worth phoning the RSA and trying to obtain some type of letter or info regarding the previous license that could be presented in a case like this so they can avoid wearing N-Plates.

And the reason they're trying so hard to get out of having N-plates is because they're extremely embarrassed over the whole thing. I'm the only family member who knows about this whole thing, and they would be mortified to wear the plates for the two years in public, so I'm trying to find any way I can to get them out of having to do so.

Thanks!
