How do you think KS's regime will end?
Since its economic performance is so poor:
* high inflation and interest rates
* no growth in GDP at all (4.7% 2021 after 9% contraction in 2020, 2.8% in 2022, 0.4% in 2023, 1.6% in 2024, 2.5% in 2025)
*Debt-to-GDP ratio exceeding 90% if you consider the guaranteed debts of public companies
* the bad deals the regime is doing in the energy sector (e.g. ELMED, Green Hydrogen projects, The solar power deals where the state (STEG) will burden much of the cost in foreign currency with no ROI or tech transfer)
* Tunisian wages being some of the lowest in the region even compared to countries like Egypt, Morocco and Jordan
* Tunisia's GDP is number 15 in Africa, with GDP per capita is ranked 10 on the continent....etc.
* Austerity continually decimating healthcare and education and transportation sectors.
* The decrease in business freedom, e.g. decrease to 57 points on the Heritage foundation's index which is below the global average of 63.
* More challenges to come with the supply shocks from this war in Southwest Asia could plunge the world economy into depression
And the regime is continually upping its reliance on oppression, having increased the population in jails and prisons by over 40% between September 2021 and May 2025, not initiating any reforms to the economy, completed the destruction of transitional justice, and is relying and promoting the military and security forces with promotions, ministerial positions, propaganda...etc.
Public support for KS clearly receded in recent years, as his repetitive populist rhetoric can't generate any results and people are growing disillusioned. I have doubts as to the number of votes in the presidential elections in 2024 (2,438,954), as its similar to 2019 (2,777,931) when Tunisians were very excited to vote for him or against Karoui at least.
My question is how do you think his regime will end? and will they make it to the 2029 elections?
I personally hope the many varied demonstrations we've seen across the country unite, but I'm skeptical or pessimistic. I can see another coup being a likely result.
