First time dog owner.
Toy poodle, 7 months old, had him for 5 months or so.
I follow 1-1,5 hour up, 2 hour sleep schedule. I enforce naps, and he usually falls asleep quickly, but he is sleeping worse in the evening.
20-30 minute walks a day, 10-20 minutes training and/or playing a day. Usually feed him through a puzzle toy 3 times a day.
When he's not crated, he can't lay down and relax at all. He just walks around the room, and chews on things he shouldn't unless i barricade half of the room, and still afraid that he will chew something he wasn't chewing before. He would sometimes fall asleep on laps until he was 3 months.
So, not settling on his own. For example, i tried not crating him after exhausting activities several times already (at 3 months, at 4 months, at 5 months), he never settled until crated. Today after a ride in the store and then in the forest where he had a good long walk (everything took 2 hours total because i thought that maybe he just needs more exercise), i also tried the same.
He still wasn't settling - he was walking around for 20 minutes, until i tried tethering him near his bed. It took him a while to just lay down. Then i tried unbuckling the leash, he stayed down. But another few minutes after, he got up, and was just walking around the room again. I tethered him again, and gave him a chew toy. Unbuckled the leash again. He chewed the toy for 6-10 minutes, then was laying? Sleeping? For 40 minutes or so, before he got up again. This whole thing was going on for 3 hours, so i decided to not tether him again for the evening. During it, i was also giving him treats occasionally, when he was staying down.
Now, doing some commands, he is just walking around.
He always has been like this. He also seems to be low energy - he gets overtired (i assume he's overtired since he's refusing to do commands and gets bitey and more destructive) pretty easily, but just won't ever settle no matter what. He is also pretty fearful, barking at sounds i can't even hear, especially in evening. Barks at people on walks, ignores them when i'm holding him in my arms, but happily greets new people at home. Overall, i'd say he is very easily overstimulated, anxious, and destructive, and have been like this since he was a puppy.
When he just arrived, he was very timid and calm until he turned 2,5 or 3 months. At 3-4 months he also would get very visibly overtired just after 35-40 minutes of being awake, sometimes even not doing anything, which also makes me believe he's low energy but just can't settle.
Any tips? Am i doing something wrong? Could it be that he needs medication? Help, please!
