Why Don’t Indian Neighborhoods Feel Better Outside the House?

I’ve always felt that in India we build good homes, but rarely good neighborhoods and streets.

I’ve been exploring an idea around cleaner, more organized American-style neighborhood planning in India proper sidewalks, cleaner road edges, better walkability, garage spaces, and a calmer street experience overall.

Personally, I also find garage culture very interesting spaces where kids grow up around tools, bicycles, DIY projects, and hands-on creativity instead of garages becoming storage rooms.

Just trying to understand whether people here actually desire this kind of environment.

Why Do Most Indian Gated Communities Ignore the Street Itself?

India has built thousands of gated communities.

But why do so few of them actually feel pleasant outside the house itself?

We focus heavily on:

- bigger homes

- clubhouses

- amenities

- towers

…but often ignore the actual street experience.

Things like:

- proper sidewalks

- clean road edges

- underground utilities

- visually organized streets

- garages that can become creative/workshop spaces

- walkability

- neighborhood character

One thing I personally find fascinating is garage culture in American suburbs not just as parking, but as spaces where kids grow up around tools, bicycles, DIY projects, mechanical curiosity, and hands-on creativity.

It makes me wonder:

Would Indians prefer slightly smaller homes if it meant living inside a far cleaner, more organized, walkable, and visually disciplined neighborhood?

Curious how people here think about this.

India Doesn’t Need Bigger Villas. It Needs Better Streets

India has built luxury homes for years.

But we still haven’t built truly beautiful neighborhoods.

I’m working on an idea to change that.

Not just bigger villas.

Not just gated communities.

But a completely different street culture inspired by the best parts of American suburban living adapted for India.

Imagine:

- clean asphalt roads

- proper sidewalks

- green lawns

- underground utilities

- organized streets without visual chaos

- homes designed with real front garages

- wide driveways

- peaceful walking culture

- no random walls destroying the street view

But the most important part is not the aesthetics.

It’s the culture.

In America, garages are not just parking spaces.

They become workshops, hobby rooms, maker spaces.

Kids grow up around:

- tools

- bicycles

- mechanical projects

- woodworking

- DIY creativity

- hands-on learning

Many iconic companies started in garages because garage culture creates curiosity and confidence.

We want to explore whether India is ready for that kind of living:

A neighborhood culture where creativity, order, engineering mindset, and community living become part of daily life.

This is currently an LOI / interest-validation stage project.

We are trying to understand:

- Do people genuinely desire this kind of environment in India?

- Would families want to raise children in this type of neighborhood?

- Would NRIs consider returning to a cleaner, more organized community standard?
