Hi everyone, I could really use some advice from people who’ve been in a similar position.

I didn’t get into dental school this cycle, so I applied to master’s programs and am currently deciding between Barry University’s and Rutgers University's programs.

My main goal is to choose a program that will give me the best shot at getting into dental school next cycle: strong GPA boost, good advising for applications/interviews, supportive faculty, and solid connections.

Here’s my dilemma: I went to Rutgers for undergrad and honestly struggled a lot with their teaching style/environment, which makes me hesitant to go back. At the same time, I know Rutgers has a strong reputation, and I don’t want to make a decision based purely on comfort if it could hurt my chances.

I’ve heard good things about both programs, but I’m trying to figure out if one is clearly better for actually getting into dental school.

For those who have done either program (or similar ones):

  • Which program better supports GPA repair?
  • How strong is advising and application support?
  • Are there good relationships with professors for LORs?
  • Do they have strong dental school connections or linkage opportunities?

I already have solid shadowing and volunteering, so I’m really focused on academics + support this year. I understand that no matter where I go, it is "high risk, high reward."

Is there an “obvious” better choice here, or does it come down to where I think I can perform best?

Any honest insight would mean a lot, thank you!!
