Hello, I have never used reddit before so please be nice lol
I am 19 and am in the middle of my Associates degree at a community college. My original plan was to finish my associates at the community college then transfer over to a 4 year university and just finish my last 2 years there studying Pre-Med or Biomedical Sciences. My real dream is to study medicine somewhere in Europe; I am yet to decide, I would like to travel and figure it out as I go (thats why I said Europe and not just a certain country.) I have family in Spain (I can speak and understand Spanish very fluently but still have a little trouble reading and writing it because I was raised in the United States) and my parents are seeing this as a great opportunity to help me achieve my dreams. I was curious of what the process is like in studying over there, not as a "study abroad program" but at a Uni in Spain. I really do not want to study medicine in the USA because I believe the health care system here is a joke that profits off of the sick, and is very quick to prescribe drugs before focusing on other approaches.
A little background: My dream is to study surgery! My high school offered a program that allowed me to receive my CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) license. I know that that will not be valid in Spain but I thought that would be good to mention when applying to schools.
Some questions I have that I can't seem to find the answers to without using AI. I try avoiding AI I personally do not believe that it's benefits outweigh its risk, plus I prefer human interaction, so I am asking here lol
- What is recommended to study for the qualifier exams? Do you recommend any specific textbooks or study websites? I need to work on my Spanish as well (my parents are both Peruvian so I was raised speaking Spanish but never learned how to read and write it fluently enough to like write an essay, so that is definitely something I plan on working on but any recommendations?)
- Can you explain how the point system works? I see that universities use a 10 point system but I can't seem to grasp the concept of it.
- At any point through the 6-year Bachelors in Medicine, can I transfer to a different university in another country such as Portugal?
- How do I apply to leave the country? Is it like a student Visa? I have 0 clue on how the legal process works that way, I never really learned through my parents, they have lived in the USA all my life and immigrated here way before I was born. Also if there are any conflicts politically with USA will that affect my visa process or could I be sent back? I see a few fear mongering things but just want clarification on.
- Am I allowed to get a job while studying? I have no idea how the visa process works.
My Mom did not go to college and my dad was in college in the 80's so he has no idea how the process works now. I had to figure everything out on my own applying for schools here, but decided going to community college to save a few bucks. I will have 0 knowledge of how to apply for schools there so feel free to give me some tips! I am open to any school in Spain public or private. Also I am aware that this will be a difficult process and I may be behind because the US education system fails its students, but I have always been part of "gifted" programs, AP classes, and Dual Enrollment while studying for my CNA license. I am also a very hard worker and will go through any lengths to achieve my goals. I will edit once I have more info, thanks for your help, hopefully lol
