Something I keep noticing in a lot of Ghibli films is how often characters are alone for long stretches of time but it does not feel depressing in the usual way. There are scenes where someone is just sitting quietly walking through nature or doing something simple and instead of feeling empty it almost feels peaceful. In most movies loneliness is shown as something painful or something that needs to be fixed quickly but here it feels different. It feels like the characters are learning how to exist with themselves rather than escape that feeling. I cant really explain why those moments feel so comforting instead of heavy. Maybe it is the way the environment is shown or how the story does not rush to fill the silence. Do you think Ghibli films are trying to show a different way of looking at loneliness or is it just part of the atmosphere and I am reading too much into it. I feel like those quiet moments stay with me more than anything else...
