I walked through Wicker today and it felt like a suburban outdoor mall. Every unique shop has been replaced by a national chain or a "concept" bar that charges $18 for a mediocre cocktail.

Meanwhile, I spent the afternoon in Avondale/Logan North and it actually felt like... Chicago. Dive bars with history, people who actually live there, and food that doesn't require a 3-week reservation.

When does a neighborhood officially "cross the line" into being a tourist park? And where are you moving next to find the "real" city vibe?

It is late April. It is 48 degrees and raining sideways. I watched a tourist laugh at me for standing under the heat lamp at the Belmont Red Line station today.

They don't understand. That orange glow isn't just heat; it's a spiritual embrace. It is the only thing standing between me and moving to Florida. Why does the city turn them off on May 1st?

I found these at a shop in Andersonville. They look like they were taken at a block party or a street fest in the mid-90s (maybe Lakeview or Lincoln Square?). There are photos of kids eating Italian Ice, a guy in a vintage Bulls jersey, and some families sitting on stoops that probably don't exist anymore.

I’d love to get these back to the families. Does anyone recognize this specific block or these people? Let’s find them.

I counted today—Halsted, Lake, and Cortland are all causing total gridlock. It feels like every department decided to start construction on the same three square miles at the exact same time without talking to each other.

My 15-minute commute has turned into a 45-minute crawl because of the "Incompetence Bomb." Is there actually a plan to finish these, or are we just living in a permanent parking lot until 2027?

Now that the weather is finally breaking, I'm looking at the summer festival calendar. It feels like every neighborhood has a "Fest," but some definitely feel more like a "hidden gem" than others.

If you could only go to one street fest this summer, which one are you picking? I'm looking for the ones with the best local food vendors and least "corporate" vibe.

Waited for the 22 on Clark today. Ventra app said 2 minutes... then 5 minutes... then it just disappeared from the map entirely while I stood there in the wind.

Is there a specific tracking app that actually works, or do we all just stand on the corner and pray to the transit gods now? I feel like a true Chicagoan now that I've been stood up by a bus that doesn't exist.

My voice is tenor. I am interested in making use of my talent the right way. So, does anyone know if there exist any opera/singing coaches?

As usual, I am trying, to spend the free time that is left for me, to embellish my neighborhood/streets, by planting the most fragrant roses. I tried showy roses, this time I am after fragrance theme.
